The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 2106 History
The need for an Elks Lodge in Rupert was felt by a number of businessmen and Elks members from Rupert belonging to the Burley Lodge.
The Rupert Elks Club 2106 was chartered April 1, 1959 sponsored by the Burley Elks Lodge 1348. The Rupert Elks needed to have a certain number of members to charter the Lodge and they attained 304 members within a short period of time. The first initiation was done at the Burley Lodge.
For the first 11 months Lodge meetings were held in the Rupert Civic Building. Later meetings were held in the clue room which was in the back of the Rogers Cafe, now know as the Drift Inn.
The Elks purchased an 80 acre farm from the Woolford Estate. Two buildings were put together for use as a lodge hall. The metal buildings were purchased from Morris Knudson at Promitory, Utah, they were moved and with most of the members working and donating money our first lodge was in effect. These were used until the new building was constructed in 1962-63. Again, members did most of the work saving the group a lot of money.
The Country Club was also established when they leased adequate ground for a 9 hole golf course and in the same manner, donations, work, etc., it was completed making a beautiful addition to the club. A Pro Shop and several storage buildings were added.
The Elks Lodge is a charitable institution. The Lodge is an asset to the community and there for all to enjoy for events and golfing.
People join the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) for many reasons, including:

Friendship: To make friends with people from different walks of life
Americanism: To promote American patriotism and participate in activities like bond drives and Flag Day observances
Veteran services: To support veterans
Youth programs: To support children and offer scholarships
Charity: To participate in national charity programs
The BPOE was founded on the principles of charity, justice, brotherly love, and fidelity. The Elks believe in helping each other become better people, and in serving others rather than being served.
